Psychological Assessment for young people in Chester

Children and young people can experience a range of social, emotional and behavioural changes following major life events. These responses are normal and often naturally resolve over time. However, sometimes children can feel overwhelmed by changes or difficult experiences and it can be hard for them and their families to understand and overcome these difficulties.

If this is something your family is experiencing, reach out to us. In the Chester Psychology Clinic we are committed to providing evidence-based and tailored support to families to help young people thrive and achieve their potential.

Following a free 20-minute introductory call with our team, should you wish to proceed, you will be booked in for an initial assessment.

What can you expect at the assessment?

The assessment appointment lasts 90 minutes. During this appointment, detailed information is gathered from the parent(s)/carer(s) as well as the young person separately.

In this session, your child psychologist will listen to what’s challenging for you and your family and aim to understand what might be contributing to these challenges. Together, you will develop an understanding of why things feel difficult at the moment and a plan on how to proceed. Most importantly, your psychologist will identify the young person’s strengths and skills and work with you to create goals for therapy.

Some of the areas the assessment will cover includes:

  • Early childhood experiences

  • Major life events

  • Physical health

  • School attendance and history

  • Family structure, relationships and challenges

  • Young person’s strengths, hobbies and interests

Following the assessment, your psychologist will discuss with you what your family’s goals are and make a plan for ongoing input. The support may involve individual sessions with your child, sessions with the whole family/parts of the family as well as working collaboratively with schools and other services in your community.

Clinical psychologists are trained in a range of different therapeutic models. Find out more about what our clinic offers here.
